A Celebration of Enduring Commitment at Harlech Castle

It was a joy and a deep honour to recently officiate a truly heartfelt renewal of vows ceremony nestled within the ancient stone walls of Harlech Castle — a place of myth, memory and magnificence.

The couple, a beautiful pair from the USA, have not only fallen in love with Cymru but Cymru, it’s safe to say, has fallen in love with them. Over the years, they have embraced and honoured our culture with sincerity and devotion: learning the Welsh language, perfecting the art of making Welsh cakes (which I can personally confirm are pretty difficult to get just right) and choosing to support local Welsh businesses at every turn.

In a touching gesture of connection and respect, their new wedding rings were handmade by a local jeweller, each one a symbol not only of their enduring bond but also of their deep-rooted love for this land.

The ceremony took place with the majestic silhouette of Harlech Castle watching over us and what made it all the more magical was that this very castle was where, 23 years earlier to the day, they had gotten engaged. The location for the renewal was chosen with such beautiful intent, allowing them to stand in the same space and look up to the exact turret where their journey began. It was as though the stones of the castle themselves remembered, holding the moment with reverence.

Their guests gathered around, as did members of the public lucky enough to be visiting the castle that day. And while the wind may have danced through the courtyard, nothing could match the warmth and presence of love that filled the space.

The bride – thoughtful, gracious and generous to her core gifted each of the women present an exquisitely handmade purse. Each one was hand-stitched with remarkable detail and care, each a small masterpiece of its own. It was a gesture that reflected the bride herself – refined, warm and deeply giving.

As with all true love stories, theirs is not only built on joy but has weathered life’s inevitable storms. And still, here they stand stronger, more in love, and more rooted than ever before. It is this resilience, this unwavering commitment, that moved so many of us during the ceremony.

And then there is Byron – their wonderful son. A true beam of light, Byron brings so much joy to their lives and in true Welsh style, completes their beautiful triad. His presence, his smile and the way he looks at his parents tell their own story – one of love passed down, of a family knit together by heart and history.

It was a day none of us will forget. A celebration not only of two people, but of belonging, of culture, of connection and of love that lasts. From the grandeur of the castle to the smallest stitched thread in a handmade gift, every detail was infused with meaning and care.
